The Truth Shall Make You Free

John 8:32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The first word spoken by a woman I know after receiving Christ as her Saviour was a simple exclamation: Freedom!! I have no idea what kind of trap she was in or why she was in it. She knew instantly that the Son of God had freed her in some way not understood by me. I was instantly convinced by the strong tone of her voice and the conviction in the word she spoke that God had saved her at that moment.

John 8:36: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The Bible is the Written Truth and Jesus is the Living Truth. There is also what I will call common truth. When we reject truth in any form there is a price to pay. When we don*t have the truth for any reason we are harmed. Any problems any of us have require truth to solve.

I heard of a hospital in Florida where a surgeon amputated the wrong foot of a surgical patient. That surgeon did not have the truth. I had a high school teacher whose dentist pulled the wrong tooth. The dentist did not have the truth. Doctors administer every available test in pursuit of the truth about their patient*s disease and the treatment that will be successful. They cannot help anyone without truth about their illness.

In our court system justice is sometimes not done because truth has been suppressed or rejected. Judges seem to sometimes put laws and rules above truth. Attorneys try to quash truth that will harm their client*s cause. Judges will negate truth by releasing a convicted criminal from prison -- not because he has been found innocent -- but because a police officer obtained truth about the guilty convict in an improper manner. Acceptance of truth would discipline the police officer without releasing the guilty criminal. Truth that is discovered after the statute of limitations has expired is ignored. Truth ought to be more important in every facet of our society and especially in the courts that are allegedly trying to administer justice.

Politicians are very adept at avoiding truth. It sometimes seems as if they have taken the reverse of the pledge pronounced in courts: Do you promise to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. They seem to have taken this pledge: I promise to speak lies, half-truths and everything but the truth. We used to laugh at the pledge given in the Our Gang Comedies. They pledged to tell the truth, the whole truth and everything but the truth. Sadly their pledge has become the norm in many areas of life today.

As important as the truth is in those areas it is most important that we have Spiritual Truth.

Love without truth is not love. Justice without truth is not justice. Faith without truth is not faith. Righteousness without truth is unrighteousness. Beauty is not beauty without truth. Part of the truth is not the truth. Half-truths are not truth.

Ephesians 4:15: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Every man will naturally reject truth, avoid truth, ignore truth and not respond to truth when he thinks it will hurt his cause.
